The Women’s Programs Association (WPA) is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO), legally registered with the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities since 2008. However, its history is rooted back in the 1950s when the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA) established sewing centers to support Palestinian refugee women in the camps in Lebanon.
The Association is a manifestation of UNRWA’s support to the local community that gradually resulted in an independent entity working to promote its governance structures while maintaining its grass-roots approach and identity.
WPA is currently working in eight different camps throughout Lebanon, from the South to the North and Beqaa, and employs a team of professional staff devoted to working in four different programs.
We envision a society where Palestinian refugee women and youth as well as other vulnerable groups live in dignity.
We aim to provide support to Palestinian refugee women and youth and other vulnerable groups in Lebanon to develop their capacities, realize their rights, and fulfill their needs. We achieve this through Protection, Education, and Livelihood.
We hold ourselves accountable to our stakeholders and remain committed to communicate openly and honestly at all times.
We pledge to be authentic and genuine in our work, serving the community to the best we can, keeping the word we give, and being true to our promises.
We do not discriminate against any vulnerable person who seeks our support, irrespective of gender, nationality, or disability status.
We recognize the right of all human beings to live in dignity, exercise autonomy, make their own decisions, and equally participate in society.
