Beddawi Camp

About the Camp

Beddawi refugee camp, located five kilometers north-east of Tripoli, suffered significant damage during the Lebanese civil war and experienced multiple instances of displacement to neighboring areas. Its population has seen a more recent rise due to the Syria crisis. Established in 1955, over the next fifty years, the camp became a refuge for many Palestinian refugees who had to leave camps like Nabatieh and Tal el-Zaatar, which succumbed to destruction in 1974 and 1976, respectively. Subsequent waves of refugees sought shelter following the devastation of Nahr el-Bared (NBC) in 2007.

Based on the official Population and Housing Census of Palestinian Camps and Gatherings in Lebanon of July 2017, the total population of Beddawi camp was found to be 17, 995 individuals, with 61.7% identified as Palestinian and the remaining 38.3% others representing other nationalities. The total number of UNRWA-registered Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon has reached 489,292 individuals as of March 2023.

About the Center

WPA Beddawi Center

Our center is made of three floors offering a variety of facilities and implementing projects. The ground floor hosts a training room designed for workshops and training sessions. This floor serves as a hub of administrative and learning activities.

On the second floor, we have our community kitchen, fostering empowerment and togetherness through shared meal preparation. Additionally, on the same floor, we have a dedicated area where social services support and case management is provided. Additionally, there is another training room dedicated to workshops and trainings, three classrooms for educational purposes.

Ascending to the third floor, you’ll find a training room and a small office, both contributing to our commitment to knowledge sharing and efficient management. The rooftop garden is being developed to offer a dedicated space for planting, actively promoting eco-friendly practices while also fostering a sense of community unity.
